Magnetic encoder is mainly composed of disk, sensor and regulating circuit. The magnetic disk is magnetized, and many magnetic poles are distributed on the circumference. Sensors (usually Hall elements) detect the change of magnetic field when the disk rotates and convert it into corresponding electrical signals. The adjusting circuit multiplies, divides or interpolates the signal output by the sensor to obtain the required output result.
The working principle of Modbus encoder is based on Modbus protocol, which is a master-slave communication protocol and is mainly used for equipment communication in the field of industrial automation. Modbus encoder, as a slave device, exchanges data with the master device (such as industrial computer or PLC) through serial communication.
Basic concepts of Modbus protocol
Modbus protocol was originally developed by Modicon, which supports various communication modes, including RS232, RS485 and RS422. It is an open communication protocol, which supports the master-slave communication mode, that is, the master device initiates the request actively and the slave device responds. Modbus protocol can be implemented in many ways, including Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII and Modbus TCP/IP.
